Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup softened unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup white granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup M&Ms for Valentine’s Day
  • Additional chocolate chips and M&Ms for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Line a 9×13 inch pan with parchment paper or foil.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter until smooth.
  3. Add the brown sugar and granulated sugar, then mix together for 1-2 minutes until fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, then mix until well combined.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and kosher salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined with a few flour spots.
  7. Fold in the chocolate chips and Valentine’s M&Ms until evenly mixed.
  8. Spread the cookie dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  9. Press a few extra M&Ms and chocolate chips on top.
  10. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  11. Let the bars cool completely in the pan, then cut into squares and enjoy!

Notes

  • Substitute Options: You can swap the M&Ms with other festive candies like candy hearts or red velvet pieces for a unique twist.
  • Allergen-Free: For a gluten-free version, use a gluten-free flour blend, and for a dairy-free version, use plant-based butter and dairy-free chocolate chips.
  • Storage: Store these bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze them for longer storage. Simply thaw at room temperature before serving.
  • Serving Suggestions: These cookie bars go wonderfully with a cup of coffee, milk, or even a glass of wine for a grown-up treat.
